Description of Work :

The Road over Bridge with approaches (total length 825m) is consisting of :

Foundation : 1000 / 1200 mm dia bored cast in situ Pile

Substructure : RCC Hollow and Solid Circular Piers

Superstructure : PSC I section Girders

Approach : Reinforced Earth Structure 

Width of bridge : 7.5 m (two lane road)

Length of bridge : 746 metres

Remarks :
  • The task of superstructure over Railway Electrified Track was challenging one, as the work demanded minimum interference to Railway traffic, coupled with utmost safety.

  • A novel method was evolved for speedy execution of the work. A temporary girder was erected across Railway line. Track was laid on temporary girder and approaches.

  • The 24 m long PSC girders (4 nos.) were cast on approaches (2 nos. on each approach) and brought over temporary girder on deep lorries one by one. This work was done in running train taking blocks on electrified tracks. Thereafter, the girders were slide slewed and lowered in position.

  • Thereafter the temporary girder was removed, Diaphragm and Deck Slab cast.

  • The entire work was done under speed restriction of 30 KMPH. This method reduced the duration of speed restriction from 120 to 30 days and it resulted a huge time saving.

  • Remaining spans were constructed using conventional staging. The approaches were constructed using Reinforced Earth Structure.

  • The work was executed in thickly populated, confined area & heavy traffic prone zone of Surat city and under the strict supervision of Project Management Consultant.
