Description of Work :

The Railway river Bridge (total length 575 m) is consisting of:

Foundation :246 nos. of 1300 mm dia bored cast in situ RCC piles (maximum depth 36 m)

Substructure : Circular Pier 3500 mm dia, 23 m height

Superstructure :PSC Box Girder 30.5 m x 18 span

Height of bridge : 25 m from river bed.

Remarks :
  • The piles were constructed by providing earthen bunds. The water way was restricted in the river bed as per the requirement of piling.

  • The piles were anchored in hard rock.

  • The integrity of piles were checked by 'Sonic Logging Testing' a latest technology. The testing has established the soundness of all the piles.

  • One Initial load test (850 MT capacity) and three routine load tests (638 MT capacity) were carried out to ascertain the carrying capacity of piles.

  • The concreting of 23 m height pier and pier caps were done by pump concrete.

  • Superstructure: 14 out of 18 PSC Box Girders were cast in casting yard on one of the approaches. The girders (each girder, weighing 340 MT) were launched, using 69.02 m long launching truss (weighing 120 MT). The launching truss was moved ahead from pier to pier with auto launching system. The PSC Box girders were lowered in position with the help of mobile gantry. The remaining 4 girders were cast in situ, using full length of web trusses.
