Description of Work :

Foundation : 5 nos. of Land Wells and 5 nos. of Wells by Floating Caisson method (Well Foundation O.D. 10, 11 & 12) Highest
depth of well is about 22 to 23 metre below well cap level up to founding level.

Substructure : RCC Wall type Pier

Superstructure :7 x 44.2 m + 2 x 43.65 m PSC I Girder (6 girders in each span)

Approaches : Moti Daman side 490 m &  Nani Daman side 430 m

Earthwork : 195000 Cum.

Soil Stabilization in approaches : 84000 Sqm.

Bridge Length : 1317 m (including Approaches)

Bridge Width : 12.23 m (with 7.5 m carriage width)

Remarks :
  • The work involved construction of 4 nos. of Land Wells and 5 nos. of Wells by Floating Caisson method

  • The site is affected by tidal water (maximum tide variation was up to 5.8 metre).

  • Four wells of Abutment (Moti Daman), P8, P7, P6 are constructed with earthen platform and the others by floating caisson method.

  • For the other wells, caisson were fabricated on the shore and towed to the location during high tide and anchored in position. Subsequently steel shell built up and concreting done in stages till the wells were grounded.

  • Once caisson was grounded, the well was sunk by grabing the muck and chiseling the rock. The foundations were anchored in hard rock strata.

  • Under water blasting was resorted for breaking rock.

  • Well cap and substructure are constructed as per standard Engineering Practice.

  • Superstructure - The land spans were cast using conventional staging method. For gorge portion heavy duty trusses of 39 m length (eight sets of trusses) were used for casting superstructure. The girders cast on the trusses were shifted side ways after first stage prestressing.

  • In the approach, Geo-textile has been used for reinforcing earthen embankment.

  • We have used pontoon mounted cranes, excavators for dredging / sinking of wells and placing / shifting trusses for superstructure.
